Combatting Loneliness Among Women Today

Talk 2 Mama K is a project dedicated to understanding and tackling the loneliness epidemic among women in the United States. This project started when I underwent my Mental Health CHW (Community Health Worker) state certification in May 2025. During the course of my study, I encountered over 50 women, mostly mothers, who had expressed a deep sense of loneliness and a dire need for genuine connection and companionship with other women. They were all in my Facebook mom groups and they all shared the same story. Each mother’s story was similar; they went days, weeks or years without genuine connection from other women. When they tried to connect with other mamas in their area it resulted in failure. And those failed attempts left them feeling lonely and empty.

As I read each story, day by day and week by week I thought about my own story. I recounted the times I reached out for genuine connection with other moms in my area only to be met by women who were either fickle, looking for followers, uninterested or down right playing games. I remember saying, “It can’t be this hard to find a mom friend?” But the reality hit that it was.

Most mothers that I interacted with were only interested in having followers. They wanted women to follow them wherever they went. They wanted them to call them and pursue them, but they didn’t want genuine connection. Most often they were not interested in intentional friendships or connections. They were not interested in getting to know other women on a deeper level. And all they offered were surface level interactions that left one feeling empty and lonely like they had always felt. These types of women I labeled the Follower Moms.

The Follower Moms were just one of the many groups of women I interacted with. More on those types of Women/Moms will come later in a blog post.

When I started studying the Loneliness Epidemic among women and looking at my life, I realized I was lonely too. I craved genuine connection with other women, whether they were moms or not. And undertaking this project was a way for me to get healing and find genuine connections.

Talk 2 Mama K is currently looking at the loneliness epidemic among two groups of women (ages 18 and up): those that are mothers and those that are not. I want to understand: which group faces the greatest impact of loneliness, what age range has the highest incidence of loneliness, and what is needed to help alleviate loneliness and bring meaningful connections in their life.

One thing I understand is that talking to someone consistently and feeling a genuine connection with them does help a woman to feel less lonely. When you talk and laugh you feel less alone. You feel seen and heard.

I believe the biggest impact Talk 2 Mama K will have in the lives of women is that it will help increase their well-being and alleviate their feelings of loneliness.

As the founder of Talk 2 Mama K, I have to admit that I enjoy talking to women, getting to know them and having a good hearty laugh. That’s the part of my social introvert side that strives to create genuine connections by getting to know others. I really do believe this world is a better place when we learn to spend intentional time with one another and build connections.

I hope to hear from you one day.

Love & Care,

Mama K
